Using the genre of still life, an overlooked foundation in the history of art, “Essence In Silver” is a project exploring the contrast between the metallic and reflected nature of steel and fish, delving deeply into the esoteric through black and white photography.

What happens when you take an organism out of its environment? What is revealed about our human relationship to nature and the cycles of birth and death?

Taking inspiration from artists Youssef Abdelke, Damien Hirst, and Irving Penn, the project invites viewers to confront how visceral and numbing violence is, by juxtaposing an ancient and intelligent species —the fish— with the industrial sheen of stainless steel, by contemplating suffering within our bodies and the collective, we ask, what is "still" about our suffering. What is pleasant in our death?
